かごめを廃寺に運んだ奈落の赤子は、汚れた四魂のかけらを仕込めと神楽に命じる。だが、かけらは弾かれ、かごめは意識を取り戻す。犬夜叉と桔梗の絆を呪えと、魂を再び掴もうとする赤子だが、かごめは赤子の暗示に逆らう。赤子の正体は奈落が捨てたがっていた奈落の弱点・人間の心だった。かごめを助けに現れた犬夜叉たちの前で、赤子は再びかごめに会いに来ると言い残して、神楽達とともに去る。白霊山から帰還した犬夜叉は、楓に、桔梗が奈落の手に掛かって死んだことを伝える。自責の念にかられる犬夜叉だが、そばにいてくれるかごめの存在に癒される。

English Summary:
Shippo finds Inuyasha and tells him that the others have been taken captive. After defeating the soldiers, Inuyasha realizes Kagura has deceived him. Meanwhile, The Infant orders Kagura to implant a tainted shard of the Shikon Jewel into Kagome. However, Kagome has regained control of her mind but not her body. Kagome must overcome her bitterness towards Kikyo. Inuyasha and the others find her, and they interrogate The Infant as being the human heart of Naraku. The Infant departs after repelling Inuyasha's attempted attack. Inuyasha later discovers how dangerous his deep and strong affections for Kikyo are for Kagome.
